Using Tsukuba Public Library

Borrow books through Interlibrary Loan

You can borrow books from Tsukuba Public Library through the University of Tsukuba Library free of charge.
Books can only be received at libraries in Tsukuba campus. (You cannot receive or return books at Otsuka Library.)

  • Delivery days:It takes 2 days to 1 week from application. Books are delivered every Wednesday, or the following Thursday if you wish to receive the books at Art and Physical Education Library, Medical Library, or Library on Library and Information Science. If Wednesday is a holiday, no delivery will be made.  
  • Loan period: about 6 weeks

How to apply

At first, please access to the online catalog of the Tsukuba Public Library and check the holdings.

  • Apply from the web
    Please follow the same procedures as for borrowing books from other university libraries.
    Apply with private expense
    Apply with university expense (Budget Registration Code is required)
    When you apply, please be sure to write "Request the delivery from Tsukuba Public Library" in the "Message to the Library " field.
    If the form is not filled out, a fee may be charged.

  • Apply at the library
    Please fill out the Interlibrary Loan Application Form at the reference desk and submit it there during the reception hours of each desk, or send it by the on-campus mail.
    When you apply, please be sure to write "Request the delivery from Tsukuba Public Library" in the authority column or in the blank section.
    If the form is not filled out, a fee may be charged.

Receive the Books

  • We will notify you by email when the books arrive.
  • Please come to the desk of each library during the reception hours of the library you wish to receive the books.

Return the Books

  • Return the books to the reference desk where you applied.
  • You cannot return the books directly to Tsukuba Public Library.
  • You cannot return the books to the main counter or the book-drop.
  • Be sure to return the books by the due date.

Notes

  • Books and journals which have not passed 1 year after receipt and audiovisual materials etc cannot be borrowed through interlibrary loan.

Visiting Tsukuba Public Library

Those who live, work, or go to school in Tsukuba City can make a user card.
