Eligibility
- Only students of this university can apply.
- Books which are not owned by this library and support studies and research of students of this university can be requested.
- If you wish to request books which have not been published yet, please apply after they have been published.
- To accommodate requests from as many students as possible, one person can request only one book each month.
Workflow from application to adoption
Step 1. Make sure the book is not held by the University of Tsukuba.
Search the book on Tulips Search or University of Tsukuba Library’s OPAC. If you cannot find it, proceed to the next step.
Step 2. Select application method.
Using Tulips Linker
* When you apply from off-campus, please use remote access service (Tulips Warp).
- Search the book on CiNii Books or WorldCat. Click the “Tulips Linker” icon to display the Tulips Linker screen.
- Click “学生希望図書”(Application to purchase books from students) on Tulips Linker.
- Enter your user ID (13 digit) and password (no need if already logged in) .
- Fill in the application page. You will receive a confirmation email after applying. Please take note of "Application number" to check the adoption results.
*If your e-mail address does not appear in the "Mail address " field, a "Confirmation E-mail" will not be sent. Please register for the email service from My Library on Library top page.
Using My Library
- Log in "My Library" on Library top page to apply from the application screen.
- You will receive a confirmation email after applying. Please take note of "Application number" to check the adoption results.
*If your e-mail address does not appear in the "Mail address " field, a "Confirmation E-mail" will not be sent. Please register for the email service from My Library on Library top page.
Using ProQuest Ebook Central
You can also apply for ebooks offered in ProQuest Ebook Central in the following ways.
- Go to ProQuest Ebook Central and search. Titles that are marked " 試し読み/リクエスト(Browse/Request)" are available for request.
- Click the Request button and log in with your Ebook Central account. (If you do not have an account yet, please create one. Use an email address from the tsukuba.ac.jp domain.)
- Fill out the request form. Please be sure to enter the reason for your request in the message field.
- You will be notified of the result of your request by e-mail. Please note that the result will not be displayed in the "Adoption results for books requested by students"
Step 3. Check the adoption results
Selection is performed based on "Adoption standards for books requested by students". You can check the adoption results from "Adoption results for books requested by students" or "Materials under request" - "Materials under request for purchase" in My Library
*It might take some time for books to become available after you submit an application. If your needs are urgent, please use Interlibrary loan services.
**Books that become available will be placed on the shelves. We do not place holds on books for applicants.
***If you have applied from ProQuest Ebook Central,the result will not be shown on the "Adoption results for books requested by students" page. You will be contacted individually by e-mail.

- The range of books to be adopted is as follows.
- Books to support studies and research of students of this university
- Basically, A book whose purchase price is lower than \50,000
- Notwithstanding the above, the following books can not be adopted.
- Books that inappropriate to be kept in university libraries.
- Books that significantly impair balance of books owned by the library.
- Separate volumes of works of literature
- Periodicals
- Special materials such as dissertations
- Books that can not be obtained as new books because they are out of print or out of stock
- Other
Books might not be available due to limitation on budget even when they meet the standards.
