Recommending Books

Faculty Book Recommendations

We will accept recommendations of books for students (including graduate students) that can contribute to their studies and broaden their education (general education books).


Books requested in March 2024 may be purchased in the new fiscal year, depending on the budget situation and availability of materials. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Only University of Tsukuba faculty members (including lecturers [non-full-time]) can make recommendations.
  • Book recommendations will be limited to 150,000 yen per person per year.
  • This is not intended for faculty members’ research purposes.
  • Journals and databases are excluded.
  • Recommended books should be ones which are not held by the library for that major.You can order either a printed copy or an eBook, depending on your preference.
  • Please note that eBooks are often two to three times the price of print. The number of simultaneous accesses will be 1.
  • Printed books will be placed on the general stack after purchase.If books need to be placed at Course Reserved Books shelves (books are in-library use only), please apply as Course Reserves.
  • Books which require high specialty are excluded from general education books.
  • Recommendations of unpublished books cannot be accepted. Please make recommendations after they are published.
  • Depending on the budget situation, acceptance of recommendations may be stopped during the fiscal year.

Application

Recommendations can be made from Tulips Linker or My Library.

Apply from Tulips Linker

* When you apply from off-campus, please use remote access service (Tulips Warp).

  1. Search the book on CiNii Books or WorldCat.
    *We recommend using CiNii Books first. In the case of no results, please use WorldCat.
  2. Click “Books Recommendation (Faculty)" on Tulips Linker and login. (If you already logged in, you do not need to login again.)
  3.  Fill in necessary information on the application form.
    You will need to provide the course name (and name of college, school or program) for making recommendations. In case of recommending general education books, the recommendation reason needs to be provided.
  4. For users of Library E-mail Service, a confirmation mail will be sent to your registered e-mail address.
  5. You will be notified when the book is ready for use.
    * You will get separate notice if the book could not be purchased for various reasons.

Apply from My Library

  1. Login to “My Library” , select "Faculty book recommendations" and  fill in necessary information on the application form.
    You will need to provide the course name (and name of college, school or program) for making recommendations. In case of recommending general education books, the recommendation reason needs to be provided
  2. For users of Library E-mail Service, a confirmation mail will be sent to your registered e-mail address.
  3. You will be notified when the book is ready for use.
    *You will get separate notice if the book could not be purchased for various reasons.

Apply from ProQuest Ebook Central

You can also apply for ebooks offered in ProQuest Ebook Central in the following ways.

  1. Go to ProQuest Ebook Central and search. Titles that are marked "試読/リクエスト(Browse/Request)" are available for request.
  2. Click the Request button and log in with your Ebook Central account. (If you do not have an account yet, please create one. Use an email address from the tsukuba.ac.jp domain.)
  3. Fill out the request form. You will need to provide information provide the course name (and name of college, school or program) and, in the case of general education books, the reason for the recommendation. Please make sure to enter the information in the message field.
  4. We will contact you when the ebook becomes available. Please inform the students who are taking the course.
    *You will get separate notice if the book could not be purchased for various reasons.

Check the status of your application

You can check the status of your requests in My Library (from August 1, 2023).

After logging in to My Library, please click on "Materials under request" - "Materials under request for purchase" to check the status. When the material becomes available, the message "Available from YYYY/MM/DD (arrival date)" will be displayed.

It will be displayed until 90 days after the arrival date (or the cancellation date if the application was cancelled).

*ProQuest Ebook Central requests will not appear in My Library. We will contact you directly when it becomes available.
