The Library is the most vital parts of the University, assisting the research and educational activities by systematic collection of books, periodicals, and other library resources.
Available to the entire university, the University Library system consists of the Central Library, Art and Physical Education Branch Library, the Medical Branch Library and Otsuka Library.
These open-stack libararies are fully computerized for easier access. The computerized and centralized library system enables users to locate, in libraries and research offices, books and periodicals in stock or on order. Persons over 18 years old from the general public also have access to our library services as an `open library.' Since the Library is now open on Saturdays and Sundays, user service has been expanded.
The Library has been automated in many functions including acquisition, cataloging, serials control, circulation, and bibliographic retrieval. Our automation system `TULIPS' (Tsukuba University Library Information Processing System) is based on a database management system.
